24th Annual Club Airshow - August 2015 - Flight Report

If you want to see a collection of our photos from the two day event (and some of the night flying) click here.

The weekend of the 1st and 2nd August was lucky with two fair weather days apart from some strong gusty breezes. A clear night on Saturday resulted in a some night flying to the light of the moon, and the planes lit up across the sky. For Sunday 2nd August the flying display kicked off, the smell of the BBQ wafting in the breeze, with some 3D flying from the Extra. With the plane dancing across the sky, the crowds grew watching the display and chatting with the pilots who had brought an array of models to display on static. Mark and Alan, providing excellent commentary, introduced each set, introducing would be flyers to how to start in the hobby. If you are interested in starting, but missed the commentary you can find some information here.

After the display from the Extra, a group of EDF planes (from HobbyKing - circa £100) took the sky followed by a pair of Visionaires. These pair, both from our club are looking to have a third member join their display set in the future and are practicing to carry out more joint acrobatics in the future so keep an eye out for them! Joining the Visionaires a Cougar 3000 (electric model) took the air.

The day continued with 3D flying from a helicopter and our group of fast fliers. (If you blink you'll miss them!)

Flying in a field means that the runway needs to be kept short for the array of craft we have in the air. Out comes the lawn mower at this point, though the amount of grass it cut is questionable considering it flies...

During the day two Tomahawks (jet fliers) from Plymouth took to the air, providing acrobatic displays with both smoke on and smoke off.

Once more our toffee bomber took to the air twice (well 'officially' the first flight consisted of some of our pilots 'flying' across the field due to a technical hitch!) much to the enjoyment of the children and their families. One lady was extremely happy when she had a liquorice toffee, leaving the 'box' with a big grin on her face!

Dancing through the air were also our group of Magnums (luckily none crashed this year!) and a group of Warbirds, demonstrating the wide variety of designs (and speeds) that these models can go. And for an added array of colour a group of planes took to the air for a streamer flight where each tried to cut the streamer off of the other. (Obviously contact was involved!)

And this was all before lunch at 12.10!

Also on display were the Funfighters and Rafale Model during the afternoon slot. And a 2ft RDMFC pasty was also available as a raffle prize!

All in all a successful and busy weekend! Thank you to all of the pilots who attended both to fly and provide static craft and thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend to find out about the hobby and what we do. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
